New Facility for Test Grinding

Satake Corporation recently completed the commissioning of new test facilities at their European base located in Stockport, Cheshire. Specialists in materials grinding, separation and classification, Satake now offer a unique facility for the test grinding of granular products using rollermill technology. At the heart of the system is the Satake STR100A Test Rollermill.

The STR100A is able to replicate the grinding action of a full size rollermill, but uses much smaller product quantities. Fitted to the machine are 250mm diameter rolls that are easily interchanged for different flute profiles and specifications.

Each roll is driven by a powerful motor to ensure that high grinding levels are achieved and the machine parameters are easily set and adjusted using the touch screen interface panel. Load cells mounted in the inlet hopper are used to display the product feed rates.

A rollermill can be used for the size reduction of a wide range of products including cereals, nuts, spices, plastic pellets, carbon black, etc. The use of a rollermill provides a controlled method of granulation that is not possible with an impacting machine such as a pin or hammer mill.

Using the roll gap adjustment and different flute profiles it is possible to size a product rather than just break or crush it. The full size machines are designed for 24 hour operation and can be easily electronically linked to a central mill control system.

The test facility, also capable of processing a range of cereal grains, including the milling of wheat, rice, maize and the dehulling of pulses, adds to the extensive services already offered by Satake worldwide.
